If you live and work in a small city like we do than this little nugget may be just for you. Always keep in mind that people talk; good and bad alike. So what are your clients saying about you? If you are doing a good job and keeping up to date with your deadlines, chances are they are singing your praises. Here are a few tips you can use to make sure that your clients are spreading the good word.
Don’t over commit yourself:
One certain way to get into your clients bad graces is to over commit yourself to a project that you simply cannot deliver on. If your client is asking too much of you, be honest with them and let them know you don’t have the resources to meet their requirement at present. But also demonstrate a willingness to seek external help, like other consultants.
Don’t talk bad about others:
What goes around comes around. In a small city be well aware that business owners all know each other somehow, and all talk. Don’t ever give in to the temptation to talk bad about a client you had bad experiences with, especially to another client. There are a couple of reasons for this. A) It will get back to them that you talked bad about them, and be certain that they will return the favor. B) It shows a tremendous immaturity on your part to bad mouth a client.
